Krav Maga Instructor: Gershon Ben Keren

Gershon Ben Keren is a 5th Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga who has been training in the system since 1993. He originally completed the IKMF’s (International Krav Maga Federation) 29-day Krav Maga instructors’ course, before going on to become a Hisardut instructor, under Dennis Hanover. He has written three Amazon best-selling books on Krav Maga (published by Tuttle Press), and in 2010 was inducted to the Museum of Israeli Martial Arts in Herzliya, Israel. He began his training in Israel, and then Europe before moving to the US in 2008. He has both taught and trained Krav Maga in Israel, where he received his instructor certifications and belts. As well as teaching Krav Maga, Gershon Ben Keren, is a criminologist who studies and researches crime – with an emphasis on violent offending. This work sees him provide training and consultancy to government agencies and enterprises operating in the private sector. He has two master’s degrees: one in criminology and criminal psychology, and the other in psychology (with an emphasis on forensic psychology). By informing himself of the way that real-life alterations occur, through academic research and studies, he is able to portray the types of realistic scenarios that people are likely to face and present accurate and valid solutions for dealing with them. A major emphasis of Krav Maga Yashir is the ability to predict, prevent and avoid violence before it occurs, something that is possible when offender processes are understood and can be identified.

Gershon is an active Krav Maga instructor who teaches 99% of the classes. He heads an instructor team who assist in the teaching, and when he is unavailable – due to professional obligations - stand in for him. This team undergoes regular instructor training to ensure that the standard of teaching is maintained.
