Beginner Krav Maga Classes (Lexington, Massachusetts)
Our Krav Maga training center is located less than 8 miles from the center of Lexington, Massachusetts, and less than a 15-minute drive. We run specific Krav Maga beginners’ classes almost every week, meaning you are usually only a few days away from the next one. Our introductory classes teach you the techniques and skills so that you can hit the ground running when you join our regular program. It also means that when you’re a member you will never have to spend time teaching people how to hold pads, what to do in drills etc., because they will already know how to do these things.
The class introduces attendees to the fundamental and core concepts upon which Krav Maga and its training methods are founded upon. Krav Maga differs from traditional martial arts in that it is not defined by its techniques. These can - and in certain cases do – change and evolve over time. This is because certain types of threats and attacks have changed in nature and/or more effective and efficient ways of doing things have been discovered. This doesn’t mean that Krav Maga is simply a mish mosh of techniques but rather that Krav Maga solutions have to adhere to a framework of concepts and principles. In this class those attending will be introduced to some of these.
Attendees will also be introduced to some of the drills and training methods that are common to our training sessions, including some of Krav Maga’s “Fighting Games”. These are used to develop real-world fighting skills in a non-harmful and non-injurious way. It has been found that by using “play” as a training tool, people learn four times faster than if taught to do something in a traditional step-by-step manner. As the goal of Krav Maga is to get an untrained, new recruit, proficient in hand-to-hand combat in the shortest possible time, using games is a highly effective way to encourage and speed up the learning process.
In this 60-minute class (located to the north of Lexington, MA) those attending will be taught how to use various pads so that when they join regular classes they will know how to hold and work the pads for a variety of striking and blocking drills. As part of this they will also be taught how to punch and strike with power, using their whole body, rather than just their arms to generate power. Krav Maga is designed for everyone to be able to use its techniques and solutions as it is taught to all new recruits to the IDF (Israeli Defense Force), so it must be usable to both men and women of all different weights and builds. Therefore, the Krav Maga method of striking doesn’t rely purely on strength and size. Simple escapes from holds, and weapon threats will be practiced/demonstrated, and will help illustrate why Krav Maga is such an effective and quick to learn method of self-defense.
