Our program teaches solutions to both unarmed and armed threats and attacks, as well as how to deal with multiple assailants who might also be armed etc. Whether you are standing, seated or on the ground, Krav Maga teaches proven and effective solutions for dealing with violence. If you would like to experience Israeli Krav Maga for yourself, you can take part in one of our beginner classes, where we break the system down for you, by clicking on the button below.

What is Krav Maga?
Krav Maga is the official fighting system of the Israeli Defense Force (IDF). It is designed to take a new recruit and get them ready in the shortest possible time to be operationally active. Using reflexive movements that the body makes automatically when attacked, Krav Maga techniques works with the body’s natural instincts. This coupled with a proven teaching methodology makes Krav Maga an efficient and effective system of self-defense. To learn Krav Maga properly it must be taught, practiced, and drilled in the correct way e.g., taking Krav Maga techniques from a book, and applying other martial arts drills to them is not going to work etc. The IDF continually reviews its teaching methodology out of necessity to ensure that the system is being taught in the most efficient and productive manner. Head Instructor, Gershon Ben Keren has taught and trained in Israel, and has completed/passed the IKMF’s (International Krav Maga Federation) 29-day instructor course that was ratified by the Wingate Institute (Israel’s governing body for Krav Maga). Krav Maga: Real World Solutions
While a punch may be a punch and a kick a kick etc., the different contexts within which these attacks are experienced are important e.g., somebody throwing a punch after a bad social interaction although technically the same as a punch thrown by somebody looking to render somebody unconscious in order to abduct them etc., is delivered with a different level of commitment. Also, the setup, and the preceding events are likely to be very different. “Krav Maga Real World Solutions to Real World Violence” (Tuttle Press, 2014), not only illustrates Krav Maga techniques and solutions – using full color photographs capturing attacks and defenses dynamically, and at full speed – but also explains how the different contexts alter and affect these violent assaults. The book lays out some of the fundamentals of Krav Maga but also illustrates how by understanding how violence differs it is possible to predict and identify physical violence before it occurs. Although Krav Maga is highly effective at dealing with violence, avoiding being targeted is preferable.

Not all violence is the same: some is premeditated (planned) and some occurs as a result of negative social interactions (spontaneously). Whilst “Krav Maga Real world Solutions” had an emphasis on premeditated acts of violence, such as muggings and abductions etc., “Krav Maga Tactical Survival” focuses on spontaneous acts of violence e.g., social disputes and conflicts arising from feelings of frustration. Injustice and disrespect etc. Many of these incidents and events can be resolved through de-escalation and conflict-resolution and don’t require physical solutions. The book contains a simple, proven, and effective method of de-escalation and explains the psychology behind it. The book also takes a look at the types of violence which may occur when dee-escalation isn’t possible or working and things turn physical. Although the book focuses on dealing with spontaneous violence it also “builds” on some of the solutions presented in the first book e.g., looking at the same knife threat but where an assailant is now controlling a limb etc.

Active Shooter incidents and Mass Killings with weapons (where four or more people are killed, excluding the killer), may not be as common as other premeditated acts of violence, such as muggings and street robberies, however they are unfortunately still a significant part of US offending. Understanding how these situations are created, develop, and take place is an important part of personal safety. Knowing what to do during such incidents dramatically increases your survival chances. “Krav Maga Extreme Survival” looks at proven and effective tactics and strategies that were organically developed in Israel, and which have now become the agreed upon approach for dealing with active shooter/killer scenarios. The book also covers two other areas of extreme violence: home invasions and carjackings. The book explains the methods and approaches that these types of offenders take and demonstrates both preventative measures along with physical solutions to them. Being prepared for anything means being fully prepared.

Gershon Ben Keren first started writing weekly articles for his blog in 2012, and it has been regularly updated ever since. Originally the articles were simply about Krav Maga, explain the concepts and principles of the system, tracking the evolution and development of techniques and solutions etc., however over time it became apparent that there was little good and productive personal safety advice within the self-defense industry i.e., most was based on good ideas and/or the instructor’s imagination of how violence occurs. To address this the blog expanded to put academic research and studies concerning violence into a palatable form, and in a way that would be of practical use to Krav Maga practitioners. You can either use the serach box below to look for articles on particular topics, or you can access the blog itself by clicking here.
Google Author Talks - Gershon Ben Keren
Gershon Ben Keren is only one of a handful of authors who have presented more than one Google Author Talk. In these two talks he lays out the processes that are involved when individuals commit violent offenses, and that by and large these are predictable affairs that in many cases can be avoided. Although presented in an easily absorbed manner, the material presented is based on that which Gershon Ben Keren studies and uses as a criminologist.
